The Cossack cemetery on Shkodovaya Gora was founded by the Cossacks of the Sotnikovskaya Sich back in the distant 18th century, several years before the founding of Odessa. In the cemetery at the burial site, you can see 32 types of ancient crosses of various sizes and shapes. The oldest cross is dated 1791. Among the graves, one stands out – in the form of a pillow with a Cossack mace. It is there that the cornet of the Black Sea Cossack army rests.
Most crosses can still make out individual words, surnames and dates. All inscriptions have been fully deciphered by Odessa historians and ethnographers. Despite its importance, the Cossack cemetery on Shkodovaya Gore is not in the best condition. From time to time, Cossacks and activists come here to restore order, in particular, to clear the territory of thickets. You can get here by tram route No. 20, which is also called reed.
